Schibsted Forlag AS (Forlag = publishing house) is a fully owned subsidiary of Schibsted ASA.
The company was founded in 2004 as a result of a merger of eight
different publishing units within the Schibsted Group.
The company history starts with Chr. Schibsteds Forlag, which was founded in 1843 by the book printer Chr. Schibsted. This venture was the starting point for the newspaper Aftenposten, and thus the starting point for what is today the Schibsted Group.
Today, Schibsted Forlag AS is the 5th largest publishing house in Norway and is among the leading publishers in the fields of biography, history/documentary, facts/annual publications, humour, food & beverages, travel guides etc. The company is also focusing on literature for children and youth, the "Smart" series of language courses on CD as well as translated fiction. Furthermore, the company imports international books and has several thousand titles in stock, with special emphasis on English fiction, travel guides and gift books. Schibsted Forlag AS is also one of the most important publishers of entertainment fiction, crime stories and cartoons and in addition, the company publishes the magazines Maison and Design Interiør.
The most well known successes include the annual Hvem Hva Hvor, which since publishing commenced 1936, has been published in a total circulation of more than four million copies, as well as publications by a number of famous Norwegian authors of entertainment literature. Entertainment literature has been a cornerstone of the company from Rudolf Muus to Kjell Hallbing and Margit Sandemo. The company introduced the modern pocket book in Norway in 1949. In addition to Norwegian entertainment and crime stories, the company also has a range of international best sellers in its portfolio, including names such as Nora Roberts and Danielle Steele.
Furthermore, Schibsted Forlag AS is today a leading publisher of cartoons, with monthly publications such as M, Kollektivet and Larsons Gale Verden in addition to a broad spectrum of children’s magazines, action series, cartoon albums and Christmas albums. Other important titles include the Guinness Book of Records and the Sportsboken, which belong to the annual portfolio. Sports biographies have also been successful over the last years, lead by famous names such as David Beckham, Ole Einar Bjørndalen and Petter Solberg.

Maison is amongst the leading titles in its field, and in addition it publishes the special magazine "Mat & Vin" ("Food & Wine") six times a year. Design Interiør is a "high-end" interior design magazine. It has a leading position among interior architects, architects and other professionals in the interior market.
